Bagley and Broadhead win pairs title.

From a strong field of 29 pairs, Jonathan Bagley and Stephen Broadhead emerged victorious after a long day’s play at the Northern Snooker Centre.
In an all Leeds final they defeated Richard Binns and Glenn Cassidy 3-1, after beating last year’s winners Wayne Cooper and Kevin Firth in the semi-final. Binns and Cassidy had scraped through a tough semi against Lionel Payne and Johnny Gallagher which had gone down to the pink in the decider.

Shaun Wilkes and Dave Pagett won the Plate competition, beating Chris Hart and Gareth Green in the final. Daniel Boyes took the days high break prize with a run of 90.

We have 29 entries for this year’s Yorkshire Pairs competition on Sunday, May 18th.

Matches in the main competition will be best of 3, with a best of 5 final.

There will be a best-of-3 plate competition for the first match losers.

Players should register by 10:15 for a 10:30 start.

Dress code applies, no jeans, trainers or collarless t-shirts please.

Cooper and Firth take Pairs title

Cooper and Firth take Pairs title.

The experienced Bradford duo of Wayne Cooper and Kevin Firth battled their way to the Yorkshire Snooker Pairs title yesterday after a full day of action at the Northern Snooker Centre.

The revised format of shorter matches in the early rounds with a plate competition for 1st match losers seemed to work well with the semi-final stage reached by mid-afternoon.

In the top half of the draw, Cooper/Firth had wins against Large/Dabell, Bagley/French and Jensen/Jackson before coming up against Michael Whaley/Josh Walker in the semi-final. The Bradford pair raced into a 2-0 lead before Whaley/Walker hit back to level. A tense final frame went down to the colours before Cooper stepped up to calmly clear green to pink to seal the victory.

In the lesser populated bottom half of the draw, Mark Ball and Ant Green saw off Leeds duo Malcolm Bilclough and Tony Massey before beating Harrogate’s Kaif Shazad and Liam Mills in the semi-final.

In a final played in great spirit, a 33 break by Cooper was enough to take the first frame before Ball/Green levelled. The next two frames were tight affairs but it was Cooper/Firth who took them both for a 3-1 win and with it the Pairs Trophy.

The day’s high break was a run of 62 by Michael Whaley.

In the consolation plate final Sheffield’s Shaun Wilkes and Dave Pagett defeated Harrogate pairing Ian Brotherton and Shab Ditta.

Yorkshire Snooker Pairs Championship 2024

There are 22 entries for this year’s Yorkshire Pairs Championship which takes place next Sunday (12th).

In an effort to ensure the competition can be finished within the day, and in light of a number of last year’s matches lasting well over 3 hours, this year’s matches up to and including the semi-finals will be best of 3 with only the final being best of 5. There will also be a consolation plate competition for 1st match losers in which all matches including the final will be best of 3.

Dress code applies no jeans, trainers or collarless t-shirts, please.

Please note there is a half-marathon event in Leeds on Sunday morning so some roads will be closed. As a result, the start time has been pushed back slightly. Players should register by 10:00 for a 10:30 start.

Yorkshire Snooker Pairs 2022

Yorkshire Snooker Pairs Championship 2022

A bumper field of 31 pairs (more than twice the previous entry) contested this years Yorkshire Pairs Championship.
In an effort to keep the day to a reasonable length it was decided to play the competition down to the semi-final stage with the semi’s and final to be played on a later date (TBC) and to extend the semi’s-final to the best of 7.
