Sheffield duo victorious in Snooker Pairs Final

Sheffield’s John Large and David Dalton are Yorkshire Pairs Champions.

John Large and David Dalton defeated Bradford’s Isa and Mohammed Ishtiaq 3-1 in the final of this year’s Yorkshire Pairs competition.

With all four players struggling to come to terms with the lightning fast match table at the NSC, the final turned into a war of attrition with the four frames taking just on 3 hours to complete.

The first frame went to the Ishtiaq’s a fluke on the brown followed by blue and pink giving them a 30-54 victory. In the second the Sheffield pairing jumped into a 34-point lead and held on to win 66-33 to make it 1-1. They then made it 2-1, Dalton potting green to pink to seal a 73-39 win. The scores were tied in the fourth frame with 1 red left but when Large doubled the yellow and followed it with green brown and blue, his side were 18 in front with just pink and black left. A couple of shots later it was all over (58-34) and the trophy was heading down the motorway to Sheffield.

Thanks to Andy Kitson for refereeing and to the NSC for hosting the final
