Vladislav Gradinari is U19 Champion

Vladislav Gradinari is the U19 Champion

Vladislav Gradinari won todays U19 championship without the loss of a frame to repeat his success of two years ago. Wins over Louie Scaife 2(61)-0 and Oscar Harris 2(51)-0 were followed by a semi-final victory over Daniel Boyes 2-0, Daniel having earlier had the day’s highest break of 74.

In the lower half of the draw, it was U16 runner-up Alex Slingsby who came through unscathed with 2-0 wins over Ethan Ross, Jensen Fulton and William Naylor.
Unfortunately for Alex, Vlad was too strong in the final, running out a comfortable 3-0 winner to take the title.

Many Thanks to referees Simon Taylor and Haris Muhammed, and of course, our sponsors, the Northern Snooker Centre.

Johnny Collier is the Yorkshire U16 Champion

Johnny Collier is the Yorkshire U16 Champion.

Barnsley’s 13-year-old Johnny Collier took this season’s Yorkshire U16 title,e defeating 11-year-old Alex Slingsby 2-0 in a nervy final. Both players struggled with the table and the occasion, but Collier, who had beaten Oscar Harris and Ethan Ross on his way to the final, proved just too strong for his opponent. Slingsby had seen off William Naylor and Louis Scaife in the earlier rounds. I am sure we’ll be seeing a lot more of both finalists at the business end of future Junior competitions.

Thanks to our sponsors, the Northern Snooker Centre and a special mention to trainee referees Alan Rayner and Simon Taylor, who officiated superbly throughout the day.

Peter Lines retains Snooker Championship

Peter Lines retains the Snooker Championship

Peter Lines defeated Robert Read 4-0 in last night’s snooker final at the NSC.
Read started brightly, a break of 40 putting him in command before Lines hit back with a run of 36. The frame ended up with a battle on the colours, Lines coming out on top 70-49.
No breaks of note in the second frame, Lines built a healthy lead which meant Read required snookers with reds still left on the table. A long bout of safety ensued, Read laying some excellent snookers but Lines was equal to the task and eventually ran out a 68-23 winner.
At 2-0 up, Lines was now able to relax and the last two frames were more one-sided, breaks of 58,32 and 76 giving Lines the match and the title (90-29), (76-1) 4-0.

Many thanks to referee Carl Whitby and marker Arnold Greenwood, and of course to our hosts and sponsors, the Northern Snooker Centre.

Following the final, the NSC’s general manager, Thomas Gedney-Higham, kindly presented this season’s prizes and trophies.
