Brighouse go joint top of Division 1

A 4-2 away win at Castleford (Michael Whaley gaining both points), saw Brighouse go level on points with Sheffield “2” at the top of division 1. Sheffield’s match with Leeds “1” was postponed resulting in a 2 point penalty for Leeds.

In the other match Sheffield “1” drew 3-3 at home with Leeds “2”. Jon O’Leary putting the visitors in front before Carl Whitby hit back for the home side.

The next round of matches is on 8/9th March

Harrogate “1” move 11 points Clear

Harrogate “1” move 11 points Clear.

Harrogate”1″‘s unbeaten run continued as they defeated second-placed Huddersfield “1” 4-2 to move 11 points clear at the top of division 2, Callum Waite with a 50 break proving the difference between the sides.

Harrogate “2” also had a fine win, defeating Huddersfield “2” 5-1, with Andy Harris and Dan Beatty starring for Harrogate.

Newcomers Halifax gained their 3rd win of the season with a comfortable 5-1 home win against Sheffield “3”. Johnny Gallagher (53) and Lionel Payne (64) gained maximum points, Dave Hall chipping in with a 55 break.

The last match finished in a 3-3 draw. Josh Walker (78) put Bradford in front before Danny Edginton hit back for visitors Wakefield.

Harrogate’s Kaif Shazad maintains his MVP lead with 16/18.

The next round of matches takes place on the weekend of 22/23 February.

John Marwood is 2025 Yorkshire Billiards Champion

John Marwood is the 2025 Yorkshire Billiards Champion

From a field of 29, John Marwood defeated last year’s champion Darren Kell, 344(68,49,48) -248 (53,79) to regain the title he won for the first time in 2017.
With 15 minutes of the final left Marwood was 160 clear. Kell then threatened a dramatic comeback but broke down on 79 and in the end Marwood finished a comfortable winner by almost a hundred points.

Dylan Smith is Yorkshire U19 Champion

Dylan Smith is the Yorkshire U19 Champion

Dylan Smith defeated James Pears 3-1 in an all-Leeds final of the Yorkshire U19 Snooker Championship at the Northern Snooker Centre from a field of 14 hopefuls.

Crucially, Dylan won the first frame on a re-spotted black with both players struggling to find any form. James hit back with a 31 break to win the second, but Dylan got stronger as the match went on and gradually pulled away to take the final 3-1.

Inter-League Action

No change in Division 1.

There was no change to league positions in Division 1 at the weekend as all three matches were drawn in what is turning out to be a very competitive league.

At Wharfedale, Mike Hodgson put visitors Castleford in front before Gyles Behbood hit back for the home side.

Leaders Sheffield “2” were held to a draw at Leeds “2”, all three matches finishing 1-1.

Meanwhile at Sheffield “1”, David Whitby got the home side off to a flying start before Lee Brookes salvaged a draw for Leeds “1”.

These results leave Sheffield “2” 4 points clear of the chasing pack with 3 teams tied for second place.

Gyles Behbood moves to the top of the MVP race with 10 wins from 12.

The next round of matches is on the weekend of 15/16 February.

We have 30 entries for this year’s Yorkshire Billiards Championship to be held at the Northern Snooker Centre on Sunday 9th February.
As last year players are requested to bring a set of Billiard balls if possible.
The field will be split into 8 groups, 6×4 and 2×3. With the 8 group winners qualifying for the quarter-finals.
Group matches will be 60 minutes, the QF’s and SF’s 75 minutes and the final 90 minutes.
The anticipated timings are as follows-
Doors Open at 09:00. Players are to register by 9:45
10:00-11:00 1st round of group matches.
11:15 -12:15 2nd round of group matches.
12:30-13:30 3rd round of group matches.
13:30-14:15 Break.
14:15-15:30. Quarter Finals.
15:45-17:00 . Semi-Finals
17:15-18:45 Final.

Harrogate “1” extend their lead at the top of Division 2.

Harrogate “1” moved an impressive 9 points clear at the top of division 2 after a 6-0 whitewash of the Harrogate “2” side. Callum Waite, Kaif Shazad (76) and Tom Harris (68) all on form for the leaders.

Second-placed Huddersfield “1” had a fine 5-1 victory over Huddersfield “2”, Robert Read and Martin Wood gaining maximum points.

In south Yorkshire, Sheffield “3” defeated Wakefield 5-1, Reece Matin and Dave Pagett starring for Sheffield, David Manuel adding a 54 break.

In the fourth match, Halifax and Bradford fought out a 3-3 draw. Johnny Gallagher putting Fax in front before Josh Walker salvaged a draw for the visitors.

Kaif Shazad still heads the race for MVP with 15/16, Johnny Gallagher’s break of 87 is still the highest.

The next round of matches is on the weekend of 8th/9th February.

Sheffield “2” regains Division 1 Top Spot.

Following the demise of Ossett and the removal of their results, Sheffield “2” regained the top spot in Division 1 with a 5-1 victory in the Sheffield “derby”. Will Lemons and David Dalton gained maximum points, with Shaun Wilkes chipping in with a 55 break.

Second-placed Brighouse went down 5-1 at home to an in-form Wharfedale side. Andy Blamire and Gyles Behbood starring for the visitors.

In the third match Leeds “2” overcame Leeds “1” 4-2, Tom Purves proving the difference between the sides.

Lewis Harper leads both the high break (89) and the MVP race (9/14).

Huddersfield “1” sit in joint second place after a 3-3 draw at Sheffield “3”. Conrad Norcliffe putting the away side in front before Reece Matin (53 break) salvaged the draw for Sheffield.

Bradford sit level with Huddersfield “1” on 25 points after defeating Harrogate “2” 5-1. Josh Walker and Peter Hamilton gaining maximum points for Bradford.

In the other match Halifax gained their second win of the season with a 4-2 away victory at Huddersfield “2”. Johnny Gallagher proving the difference between the sides.

In a re-arranged Division 1 fixture, Brighouse kept the pressure on league leaders Sheffield “2” with a 5-1 win at Leeds “2”. Michael Whaley (50 break) and Luke Drennan doing the damage for Brighouse
