Sheffield’s Jake Crofts takes U25 title
Sheffield’s Jake Crofts takes U25 title.
Jake Crofts battled his way through a strong field to take this season’s U25 crown. Wins against Shaun Liu (3-1) and Josh Brady (3-0) were followed by an epic semi-final win over Vladislav Gradinari. Gradinari started with a magnificent 139 clearance which took the day’s high break prize, but Crofts fought back and with the aid of breaks of 60 and 61 he managed a 3-2 victory.
In the final he faced Samuel Lee Stevens who had defeated Daniel Boyes (3-1) and Oliver Read (3-0), including breaks of 58,62 and 56 along the way.
The final itself was a tense affair, Lee Stevens taking the opener before Crofts took the next two with the aid of a 52 break. Lee-Stevens levelled, but Crofts proved the steadier of the two and took the decider and with it the title of Yorkshire U25 Champion.
Shaun Liu defeated Luke Drennan 2-1 in the final of the plate competition.

In form Milne takes the Masters Title
In form Milne takes the Masters Title.
Scarborough’s Gary Milne added the Yorkshire Masters title to the Yorkshire Snooker singles championship he won a couple of years ago.
The day started with a short tribute to the recently departed Alex Crum, led by Richard Bakes.
Once the action started it was clear Milne was going to be the man to beat, a magnificent run of 132 in his first match tying up the high break prize from the off. Further breaks of 54,91, and 68 helped him reach the final in quickfire time, including a fine semi-final win over Shaun Wilkes. He then had a short wait to see who he would face in the final.
In the top half of the draw, it was Mark Ball who emerged victorious, the highlight being a win in the semis against reigning Masters champion Craig Butler.
In the final itself, it looked like Ball was poised to take the first frame but a missed brown proved costly and Milne went 1 up. From there it was one-way traffic and breaks of 46 and 65 took Milne to a 3-0 victory and the title of Yorkshire Masters Champion.

ALEX CRUM.
We are saddened to receive the news today that Alex Crum passed away peacefully on the 9th of November at LGI aged 89.
Alex had been unwell for a while but remained at home until the last few days.
Alex was well known around the Yorkshire area, and even nationally, for the work he did to promote Snooker and Billiards and more locally in Leeds and Castleford leagues.
A Snooker referee from the early 80’s he soon became involved in the Y.B.&S.A. as Tournament Director. He became Vice-Chairman of the Association under the chairmanship of Steve Crosland until recent years when the Association offered him an honorary life member.
A popular and well-liked character by the many friends Alex has made over the years, he will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
The funeral details will be announced as soon as they become available.

Brighouse set early pace in Division 1
BRIGHOUSE SET EARLY PACE IN DIVISION 1
Captain Luke Drennan was the star for newly promoted Brighouse as they trounced Castleford 5-1 to top the Division One table after round 1 of the Inter-District League.
Drennan had breaks of 71 and 77 in winning both his frames, teammate Lee Roberts also claiming both points and chipping in with a 70 break for good measure.

The Sheffield “derby” ended in a 4-2 victory for Sheffield “1”, David Whitby compiling a 65 break in taking both points to prove the difference between the teams.
Will Lemons set the standard for the high break prize with a run of 101 in his second frame.

In the other match, last season’s champions Leeds 1 were held to a 3-3 draw by Ossett.
Mark Ball took both points ( 50, 51 breaks) before Lewis Harper (73 break) put Leeds into a 3-1 lead. Jason Taggart saved the day for Ossett to earn a 3-3 draw.
The second round of Division 1 fixtures take place on the weekend of 11th/12th November.

New Season Starts Soon
Inter-District Snooker League
This season’s Inter-District League will consist of 13 teams, with 7 teams in the A Division and 6 in the B Division.
Wakefield has dropped out from last season but I’d like to welcome Wharfedale and Huddersfield back into the fold.
This season’s fixtures have now been compiled. Avoiding Bank Holidays and other YBSA competitions, plus accommodating the 3 Sheffield teams all playing from the same venue has been a challenge, hence the reason why the gaps between fixtures varies throughout the season.
Individual matches can of course be brought forward throughout the season where both teams agree, but the final round of matches must be played on the scheduled weekend.
Captains are reminded that matches should only be postponed at short notice in “exceptional circumstances”. If matches are re-scheduled due to a “lack of players” then the offending team will be penalised.
Players are also reminded that a dress code will be in operation throughout the season. Jeans, trainers and collarless T-shirts should not be worn.
Where possible, Referees should be provided for matches, players participating in the matches should not be expected to mark or referee.
Finally score sheets should be filled in correctly using full names and submitted promptly using the required format.
It is my intention to compile a website report following each round of matches.
Competition dates for some events
YBSA Competition dates revealed
Following the AGM on 4th September we are now able to provisonally see what the new YBSA season will look like. With some new events on trial which are FREE to enter that’s right FREE!! providing we get the required numbers.
Firstly we want to say a massive thank you to our sponsors, Northern Snooker Centre and ADT Flexibles Without their yearly sponsorships we wouldn’t be able to provide all these amazing competitions.
With the exception of the U16/U19 events, there will be no “pay on the day” option for tournament entry, The usual account number will be used for payments for events via bank transfer and entries will be confirmed when the relevant web-based entry form and fee have been received.
A deadline for entry for each competition is set and once this deadline has passed no further entries will be accepted. This will allow us to pre-draw the competitions and stagger start times if required. We now have a contact database which can be utilised to ensure players are aware of impending deadlines.
