Whaley finished with 3 wins from 5 games and made the day’s highest break of 86 on top of a 58, but ended as second placed behind the impressive young Bailey Fisher, who topped the group with 4 wins and made breaks of 46 and 45.
Brother Riley Fisher made a break of 48 during the day but was unable to make it through the group stages, instead this was Dave Graham and Tony Arnott successfully negotiating the round robin stage, with Graham winning all 5 matches.
2016 champion Omar Butt, topped Group B and qualified with Kyle Holland, whilst Mark Salmon and Ryan Bailey qualifying to make up the final 16.
Bailey made breaks of 70, 64 and 55 during his qualification to the latter stages which takes place on the 29th March at Rotherham’s Pockets Snooker Club, where the last 16 will become a straight knockout of best of 5 matches.
