Yorkshire Snooker Championship 2023 Qualifier 1 – Results

There were 37 players in the line up for the first Yorkshire singles qualifier, (3 players didn’t show up).

First to qualify at 14:30 was the current title holder Gary Milne. Milne defeated James Bielby 3(55)-0, and Steve Peace 3(62,72)-0 before receiving a walkover in the final qualifying round, his opponent deciding to withdraw after realising he wouldn’t be available for the quarter final date.

Next through around half an hour later was Sheffield’s David Birley. Birley scraped through 3-2 against James Pears before beating Kuldesh Johal 3-1 and Stuart Jauncey 3-0 to qualify.

Third to qualify about an hour later was Halifax’s Michael Whaley. A 3(64,51)-0 victory over Dave French was followed by a 3(76)-0 win over Jeff Harris. Whaley then confirmed his last 8 spot with a 3-0 defeat of Mohammed Ishtiaq.

Last Player through was York’s rising star Liam Pullen. A 3(72)-0 win over Oscar Harris was followed by further wins over Tommy Doherty 3-0 and Gavin Godfree 3(93)-0. In his final qualifying match breaks of 78 and 82 were enough to give him a 3-1 victory over Scott Raper.

So the 4 names going into the re-draw for the quarter final line up on 30th April are Gary Milne, David Birley, Michael Whaley and Liam Pullen.
