Yorkshire Snooker Pairs 2022

Yorkshire Snooker Pairs Championship 2022

A bumper field of 31 pairs (more than twice the previous entry) contested this years Yorkshire Pairs Championship.
In an effort to keep the day to a reasonable length it was decided to play the competition down to the semi-final stage with the semi’s and final to be played on a later date (TBC) and to extend the semi’s-final to the best of 7.

First pair through were Daniel Womersley and Sanderson Lam, (pictured with referee Natalia Gradinari).

In their first match they were up against Andy Blamire and Jason Walton and a 64 break from Blamire saw them lose the first frame. Undeterred they fought back to win 3-1 helped by breaks of 53 and 81 from Lam. A 3-0 defeat of promising youngsters Stan Moody and Vladislav Gradinari followed, before they finally qualified for the semi-final with a 3-1 win over Lee Brookes and James Pearson, which included the days highest break of 105 from Lam.

Next pair through to face Womersley and Lam in the semi-final were Jonathan Bagley and Wayne Cooper. (pictured with referee Michael Davenport).
After receiving a bye in the first round they defeated Mark Ball and Luke Campey 3-0 and followed this up with a 3-1 defeat of another pair of promising young players James Pears and Samuel Lee -Stevens.

2. Wayne Cooper & Johnathan Bagley

Third pair to reach the semi’s were Anthony Massey and Liam Pullen who started the day with a 3-2 defeat of reigning pairs champions (and going for a “threepeat”) Richard Binns and Glen Cassidy. Another close match followed with a break of 81 from Pullen being the highlight in a 3-2 win over father and son combination Isa and Mohammed Ishtiaq. The final match was another titanic struggle against Josh Walker and Michael Whaley, Pullen clearing the last red and all the colours to win 3-2 on the final black.

3. Anthony Massey & Liam Pullen

Last to qualify to meet Massey and Pullen in the semi’s were Shaun Wilkes and Hayden Staniland. A 3-0 win over another father/son combination of Oliver and Jason Hudson was followed with a 3-0 defeat of Anthony Green and Boover Singh. In the day’s final match at gone 6 0’clock they finally overcame Danny Dean and Damien Gale 3-1 to claim the last semi-final spot.

4. Hayden Staniland & Shaun Wilkes

So Womersley/Lam v Bagley/Cooper and Wilkes/Staniland v Massey/Pullen  are the semi-finals which will take place once we can find a mutually agreeable date for all concerned.

Many thanks to referees Michael Davenport and Natalia Gradinari and of course to our sponsors the Northern Snooker Centre.
